Disk Diet

Makes it easy to free up gigabytes of disk space

Stacks Image 3908

Disk Diet safely and quickly frees up gigabytes of wasted disk space.

It's a common factor with most Mac users that at some point the drive will run out of space. When this happens, it's difficult to find which files are safe to remove, especially trying to hunt through multiple folders looking for them. Disk Diet does all this in about a minute, while searching through all these areas:

• Application Logs
• System Logs
• Caches
• Trash
• Downloads
• Mail Downloads
• Old iOS Software Updates
• Unused applications
• Unused language translations from applications
• Developer Folders from Xcode
• iPhoto Trash

To enable maximum speed and efficiency, Disk Diet is now built as a Universal Binary 2, which means the same version of the app runs natively on both Intel and Apple silicon based Macs.

Disk Diet was first released as the original disk cleaning app for macOS in 2011 and we've been updating it ever since. Now, over 10 years later, it's fully compatible with macOS 12 Monterey and Apple silicon. With a MacWorld GEM, and over 100,000 downloads, it's the premier disk utility that all Mac users need to have. Download the free trial today!

Requires macOS 10.11 or newer. Compatible with macOS 14 Sonoma.
One license is valid for up to 3 Macs.
No subscription required.
All updates to 5.x are free.

Cleans Everywhere

Disk Diet can safely clean up to 10 different areas without any type of manual searching or locating. This includes:

  • Application Logs
  • System Logs
  • Caches
  • Trash
  • Downloads
  • Mail Downloads
  • Old iOS Updates
  • Developer Built Files (from Xcode)
  • Unused Applications
  • Extra Languages from App Translations

It's Fast

Disk Diet is extremely fast because it uses Grand Central Dispatch (GCD), a technology in macOS that allows the use of every single CPU core.

During a clean, the only limiting factor is the speed of the drive.

With a modern SSD, it only takes about 10-20 seconds to scan and determine which files can be removed to free up space.

Get Back Gigabytes

It's likely right now that there are gigabytes of space on your Mac that are being taken up by files that are either forgotten or hard to find.

See the handy space bar at the top of Disk Diet that displays stats about the drive along with how much of the used space is junk and can be safely freed up.

Removed Unused Applications

Once common source of wasted space is applications that haven't been used in a long time. Disk Diet gives the option to automatically select applications that haven't been used:

  • In the last month
  • In the last year
  • In the last 2 years
Or individual applications can be chosen from the list.

Available in Multiple Languages

Disk Diet has been localized for eight languages to ensure that it's clear what each area is for before cleaning anything. Just click the help icon on the right of an area to get a helpful popover.

Disk Diet is available in:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Russian
  • Japanese
  • Chinese (Simplified)

An example of the Caches help popover in both English and Japanese.

macOS 12 Monterey + Universal Binary

Dark or light mode, it doesn't mater - Disk Diet looks great from macOS 10.11 El Capitan all the way up to macOS 12 Monterey.

It's also now a Universal Binary, meaning it runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon based Macs for maximum speed and efficiency.

In addition, on 10.15 Catalina and above, it's notarized (scanned for malware) by Apple, and uses the Hardened Runtime to ensure it's the original from Tunabelly Software and hasn't been tampered with.

How to use Disk Diet

Disk Diet is easy to use, with in-app prompts on how to set everything up so there isn't an in-depth tutorial.

Here are some helpful tips to help out:

  • The App Store version is sandboxed and will prompt once to choose some folders so it has access. For extra help, read this.
  • Cleaning system logs and extra languages requires a helper app which can be downloaded here: Disk Diet Helper.

Disk Diet digs into Mac files you may not need and frees up a lot of storage; I’m talking about gigabytes of storage the first time you use it. Noodle Mac : Disk Diet Review
